How does existing employee experience impact new employee recruitment?
Employee experience should always be a top five priority for businesses. Without the right employee experience, it becomes incredibly tricky to attract and retain the right staff members. Businesses who want to create a positive employee experience for their staff, need to offer their staff clear visibility on training, succession planning and welfare. This should be from their very first interaction with the business - being able to show these plans to a candidate during their job application process reassures them that they will be looked after properly should they come to work with you. The pre-arrival experience for prospective employees is your chance to set out your stall effectively and show why candidates should work for you instead of your competitors. Remember that your website is not the only place that candidates will go to research working life at your company. They will also look at review boards like Glassdoor and check recent press coverage. So if you want to attract top talent to your business, make sure that your online presence paints you in a positive light!

To successfully retain employees, businesses need to create small and regular ‘moments that matter’ across the employee’s tenure.
What can businesses do to improve employee retention?
Retaining employees is a challenge for all businesses, there’s no two ways about it. To successfully retain employees, businesses need to create small and regular ‘moments that matter’ across the employee’s tenure. The first moment is when an employee joins your business. They need to feel welcomed into the culture and excited to be there. We invite potential employees to spend time with us before accepting their offer so they can really make sure the culture is right for them before joining. From here, it’s about layering on treats and incentives across the year. Things like private healthcare should be given, and then long service awards to really recognise those employees who have been with you for an extended period of time. Finally, it sounds basic but it is important - let your employees have fun with regular social events. Two a year is a good place to start, but we aim to have at least four a year so that our employees always have something to look forward to.
How can businesses help their employees to generate new ideas?
People are any businesses’ greatest asset. It sounds obvious, but you would be amazed at the number of businesses that still have not recognised this. This is why it is so important that employees need to feel safe and confident to be their true selves when at work. This safety and confidence if you want employees to suggest new ideas and concepts. If employees don’t have the safety and confidence to be themselves, their work will quickly suffer and this can have ramifications across the whole business. Creating an employee-first culture starts at the very top. Everything your CEO says or does should inspire and empower employees to bring new ideas to the table. This should also be reflected within your senior leadership team, so that employees know exactly who to approach with new ideas and perhaps more importantly, have the confidence that their ideas will be listened to.
